3DEM VRML Worlds

These are Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) worlds created by 3DEM.  VRML worlds and freely available VRML player software allow you to explore the terrain surface in real time.   The freeware GLView VRML player is highly recommended for exploring these worlds.

If your web browser is VRML capable, just click on the images below to view these worlds.  If you web browser is not VRML capable, you may see only a blank white terrain, or no terrain at all.  In this case download the VRML as a zip file which, after decompression, can be viewed using the GLView VRML player.

Mount St Helens

and Landsat 7 photograph
(650 KBytes)

Mount Hood, Oregon

(2200 KBytes)

Mount Elbert, Colorado
created from USGS DEM
and Landsat 7 photograph
(2400 KBytes)

Longs Peak, Colorado
created from USGS DEM
and Landsat 7 photograph
(1100 KBytes)

Mount Shasta, California
created from USGS DEM
and Landsat 5 photograph
(2900 KBytes)

Emerald Bay, California created from USGS DEM and Digital Raster Graphic
(420 KBytes)

Old Rag Mountain, Virginia with GPS surface track
created from USGS DEM and Digital Raster Graphic
(620 KBytes)

Pacific Ocean Ridge created from bathymetry
(300 KBytes)

Mars, Valles Marineris created from NASA DTM
(190 KBytes)

Mars, Olympus Mons created from NASA DTM
(200 KBytes)

Note that these VRML worlds are downloaded in two parts by the GLView VRML player.  First, the elevation data is downloaded as a *.wrl file that appears as a bright white surface with little visible detail.  Then you must wait a few more minutes for
the *.jpg surface color file to be downloaded and for the terrain colors to be applied.
